FAQ

Recurring giving calculator questions.

Why do monthly donors matter so much?

A recurring schedule can turn a modest monthly amount into meaningful cumulative support: $25 a month is $300 over one year and $1,500 over five years before cancellations or payment failures. Use the calculator to compare that pattern with a one-time gift.

How should I read the program projection?

It starts with your current monthly donors and average gift, adds the new donors you assume will sign up each month, and removes the share you assume will cancel or stop paying. Treat the result as a planning scenario, not a forecast, and compare several assumptions drawn from your own donor records.

What is a reasonable churn rate?

There is no single rate that fits every organization. Calculate yours consistently from your own records—for example, donors who leave during a month divided by active monthly donors at the start—and compare multiple periods. Decide whether cancellations and payment failures are combined or tracked separately before using that rate here.

What is the “impact unit”?

A way to translate money into something concrete for donors: if $60 provides a week of meals, the calculator shows how many weeks of meals a monthly gift funds over time. Use your own numbers.

How do I start a monthly giving program?

Connect a verified Stripe account and enable monthly giving on the KindLumen form. Stripe manages the subscription on your connected account. Automatic retry behavior depends on that account’s Stripe Billing settings, and donor self-service depends on the management options you make available.
