Editorial standards

Evidence first. Tradeoffs visible. Corrections welcome.

KindLumen publishes fundraising guidance and product comparisons in a category full of changing prices and broad claims. This is the standard we use to make that work useful, verifiable, and fair.

Our source hierarchy

Start as close to the fact as possible.

A polished sentence is not evidence. The source behind it matters, especially when the fact can change after publication.

1

Primary evidence

Product documentation and direct observation

For pricing, eligibility, product behavior, and policies, we start with the provider’s current documentation, pricing pages, terms, or the product itself. We record when volatile sources were checked.

2

Authoritative context

Government, standards, and original research

For legal, tax, accessibility, security, and industry questions, we prefer the responsible public body, published standard, or original study over a marketing summary of it.

3

Practical evidence

Clearly labeled examples and calculations

Worked examples state their inputs. Hypothetical organizations and donation scenarios are labeled as examples, never presented as customers or measured outcomes.

How we compare products

KindLumen is not a neutral observer when it compares KindLumen with another platform. We make that conflict visible and give readers the source list, assumptions, and limitations needed to challenge the analysis.

Read the comparisons
  • Apply the same gift amount, payment method, and fee assumptions to every platform in a worked example.
  • Separate required organization fees from optional donor contributions or tips.
  • Describe meaningful competitor strengths, not only the areas where KindLumen performs well.
  • State KindLumen limitations and eligibility gaps where they affect the decision.
  • Link material product and pricing claims to sources a reader can inspect.
  • Avoid scorecards that turn unlike products into a false one-number winner.
Writing standard

Professional writing without manufactured proof.

Useful content can be confident and readable without pretending that an anecdote, number, or credential exists when it does not.

No invented authority

We do not fabricate credentials, interviews, customer stories, quotes, statistics, or first-person experiences. When a claim is an editorial judgment, we present it as judgment.

No search-engine filler

A page must answer a distinct reader question. We do not change a city, platform name, or keyword and call the result a new article.

No hidden sales conclusion

KindLumen publishes this library and may benefit if a reader signs up. That commercial interest is disclosed; it does not replace the evidence or decide the conclusion in advance.

No silent certainty

When a fact varies by country, account, payment method, or configuration, we state the boundary. When a source does not support a precise number, we do not manufacture one.

Dates, reviews, and corrections

A published date records when a page first goes live, when that date is known. An updated or reviewed date changes only after someone checks the substance of the page.

Product facts and prices can change. Comparisons identify when their sources were verified so readers can judge freshness without treating a date as a guarantee.

When a material error is confirmed, we correct the page. A correction should repair the claim and its downstream calculations—not merely soften the wording.

Editorial contributors

The people named below have helped shape and polish ideas published by KindLumen. A byline identifies a contributor who worked on that page; KindLumen remains responsible for the claims, sourcing, and corrections. We do not imply credentials or affiliations that are not stated.

  • Zane Cole
  • Arlo Vance
  • Kiran Patel
  • Devon Reed
