FAQ

Donation receipt generator questions.

What has to be on a US donation receipt?

IRS Publication 1771 explains that a donor needs a contemporaneous written acknowledgment to substantiate a charitable contribution of $250 or more. Common elements include the organization’s name, the cash amount or a description of noncash property, and whether goods or services were provided in return. If they were, additional details may be needed. When you select US 501(c)(3), this tool adds common acknowledgment language based on that publication.

Is this tax advice?

No. The wording is based on IRS Publication 1771, but this tool cannot verify your tax status, the deductibility of a gift, or whether the document meets every requirement. Organizations outside the US should choose “Other” to omit US tax statements. Review each receipt before sending and consult a qualified adviser about unusual, quid pro quo, or noncash gifts.

How do I download the receipt as a PDF?

Click Download PDF. Your browser’s print dialog opens with only the document on the page; choose “Save as PDF” as the destination. The same button prints to paper.

What is saved on my device?

Only your organization’s letterhead details, logo, messages, and the next receipt number, so you don’t retype them. Donor names, addresses, and gift details are never stored; they are cleared when you start the next receipt.

Can I send year-end statements?

Yes. Choose the Year-end statement template and add each gift the donor made during the year. The statement lists the gifts, a total, and common acknowledgment language based on IRS Publication 1771. Review the donor and gift details before sending, or use the bulk year-end statement tool for a compatible CSV export.
